Advance Tax Calculator — how it works
If your total tax liability for the year (after TDS) is ₹10,000 or more, the law requires you to pay it in instalments through the year rather than in one go at filing time. This calculator splits your estimated tax into the four instalments and tells you what's due and when.
The instalment schedule
Advance tax follows a fixed cumulative schedule: 15% by 15 June, 45% by 15 September, 75% by 15 December, and 100% by 15 March. Each instalment is cumulative — so the September payment covers the gap between 15% and 45% of your total liability, not a fresh 45%.
Who needs to pay it
Anyone — salaried, freelancer, or business — whose net tax liability after TDS/TCS crosses ₹10,000 in a financial year. Senior citizens without business income are exempt.
What happens if you miss it
Missing or underpaying an instalment attracts interest under sections 234B and 234C, calculated monthly on the shortfall. Getting the estimate right early avoids this at filing time.
