EPF Calculator — how it works

The Employees' Provident Fund is a mandatory retirement savings scheme for salaried employees, with contributions from both you and your employer. This calculator projects your EPF balance at retirement.

Contribution split

You contribute 12% of basic salary + DA. Your employer matches 12%, but only 3.67% of that goes to EPF — the remaining 8.33% goes to the Employee Pension Scheme (EPS), which is a separate pension benefit not included in this EPF projection.

Salary growth assumption

The calculator lets you assume an annual salary growth rate, since your basic salary — and therefore your contribution — typically rises each year. A higher growth assumption produces a larger projected corpus.

Withdrawal rules

EPF withdrawal before 5 years of continuous service is taxable; after 5 years, it's tax-free. Partial withdrawals are allowed for specific purposes like home purchase, medical emergencies, or education.

The formula

Yearly contribution = 12 months × monthly basic × 15.67% (employee 12% + employer EPF share 3.67%)

Frequently asked questions

Can I withdraw EPF if I change jobs?
You can transfer your EPF balance to your new employer's account, or withdraw it — but withdrawing before 5 years of continuous service makes it taxable.
Does the employer's full 12% go to my EPF?
No — only 3.67% of the employer's 12% goes to EPF; the remaining 8.33% goes to the Employee Pension Scheme (EPS), a separate pension benefit.
